Plagiarism Screening
Plagiarism Screening Procedure
Hang Tuah Medical Journal
Hang Tuah Medical Journal is committed to maintaining the integrity and originality of every published manuscript. Therefore, every submitted article will go through a plagiarism screening process as part of the editorial selection. The purpose of plagiarism screening is to ensure that all published scientific works are the original work of the author and are free from plagiarism.
Plagiarism includes direct copying of text without citing the source, paraphrasing without attribution, using data, images, tables, or ideas belonging to others without permission or without citing the source. To detect plagiarism, the editors use software such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or Plagiarism Checker X, in accordance with the journal's license. Each manuscript is checked before entering the peer review stage.
The tolerance limit for similarity is a maximum of 20% for the entire manuscript, with the exception of correct direct quotations and bibliography. In addition, the level of similarity in one source (single source similarity) should not exceed 5% without proper citation. If the level of similarity is below or equal to 20% and there is no indication of serious plagiarism, the manuscript can proceed to the review stage. However, if the level of similarity exceeds 20% or serious plagiarism is found, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision. In cases of severe plagiarism, such as full copying of more than 30% without citation, the manuscript will be immediately rejected and the author will be subject to sanctions in the form of a ban on submitting articles for one year.
The results of the plagiarism check will be documented as part of the editorial archive for each processed manuscript. In addition, Hang Tuah Medical Journal actively encourages authors to understand the ethics of scientific publication and use plagiarism checking tools independently before submitting a manuscript. Guidelines for publication ethics and correct citation procedures are available on the journal's official website.
