Pengaruh Pemberian Ekstrak Rumput Laut Merah (Kappaphycus alvarezii) terhadap Kadar LDL pada Tikus Putih (Rattus norvegicus) Jantan Galur Wistar yang Diberi Diet Tinggi Lemak

Abstrak

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death globally. The instant lifestyle habit of people especially consuming unhealthy diet can increase LDL levels which can cause cardiovascular diseases. Red seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) which is widely cultivated in Indonesia contains flavonoid dan triterpenoid that effectively decrease LDL levels. This study aimed to analyze the effect of red seaweed extract (Kappaphycus alvarezii) on LDL levels in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) fed high fat diet. This study was a true experimental research with post test control group design.The subjects were 24 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into 3 groups: a group fed standard diet for 28 days (K1), a group fed high fat diet for 28 days (K2), dan a group who was given a high-fat diet for 28 days dan on the day-15 until the day-28 was given red seaweed extract (Kappaphycus alvarezii) with a dose of 140mg/200grBB/day (K3). The results of statistical analysis using One Way Anova test showed that there were significant differences in LDL levels between the three groups in this study (p <0.001). LDL levels in K2 ( X =16.00±3.29) increased significantly compared K1 ( X =10.62±1.77). While LDL levels in K3 ( X =6.88±2.42) decreased significantly compared to K2. So it can be concluded that red seaweed extract (Kappaphycus alvarezii) has an effect on blood LDL level in male Wistar rat (Rattus norvegicus) fed high fat diet
